problems converting mail server on chavez
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 Servers Affected/Servidores afectados: chavez Period Affected/Horas afectadas: 2015-07-10 Date/Fecha: 2015-07-10 The following problem only affects users on chavez. During the conversion of the email system on chavez from Courier to Dovecot, we encountered some problems that may affect some email users. If it seems as though your email folders have disappeared OR if you find that old messages have been re-downloaded, please read on for an explanation. Some users may lose their folder subscriptions. It will appear as if your folders have disappeared. However, they are still present and available, but you will have to re-subscribe to them. There is a tutorial for subscribing to your folders using a variety of email program available on this web page: http://www.webhostinghub.com/help/learn/email/general-info/subscribe-to-email-folders-email-client If you have any trouble re-subscribing to your folders, please open a ticket: https://support.mayfirst.org/newticket Other users, who use the POP protocol to download your messages to your phone or desktop client may experience all of the messages in your inbox on the server being re-downloaded to your client, causing duplicate messages on your email client. We realize this is a huge inconvenience and apologize for the mistake. Unfortunately, the only remedy is to manually delete the duplicates from your email client. What happened? The problem happened due to a bug in the conversion script causing it to fail to run properly on all mailboxes. The conversion process ensures that the unique identifiers for each existing message and the list of subscribed mailboxes were preserved in the new email system. Users who checked their email between about 9:00 pm and 11:15 pm America/New_York time may experience this problem. Unfortunately, this includes users who have their desktop and/or phone email programs configured to regularly check their email, which is quite common. We carefully tested the conversion process on two lightly used servers before converting chavez, and did not encounter this problem because it only affects people who either user POP or who have an email program that depends on subscriptions. We have updated our conversion scripts to ensure this problem will not happen on future servers that are updated to use the new email system.
